Around the World

This weekend we had a really fun acitivity at church called Around the World. The activities committee asked people in the ward to sign up for places they had been, were from, served missions in or just interested in learning more about. People set up little booths and we were able to go around and try the food and learn a little about that country. Well, Drew decided to sign-up for Chile since he served his mission there. It took all day Saturday to prepare but it turned out to be really fun. Drew made Empanadas Fritas. They tasted awesome.

Do you like his University of Utah apron and Hat?

Empanada Frita filled with cheese

This is Drew dressed up as a Gaucho at his booth.
Some money, metal plates and other items he brought back from Chile.

These were some of the other booths. We had a Samoan man show everyone how to break a coconut. We also had a family play on the didgeridoo. I tried this stuff from Australia called vegimite and dried eel from somewhere in Asia and both were really bad but everything else tasted fabulous. It was tons of fun.

This is a booth from England and the other one is Samoa.

This is a booth from Peru and this one is Australia.

What fun activity has your ward/church planned lately?

Our ward rarely has parties, but we do have several neighborhood parties a year. Usually they're just a pot-luck and we get a lot of socializing in while the kids play. It's always fun.

Those Empanadas sound really yummy!

Well Morgan has been working like a fiend washing cars and serving pancakes at our church! She has earned almost enough money to pay for her whole ski trip over Christmas! Hooray. She also started back at dance this past week and is doing so many activities at school I can hardly keep up.
Student Council, Office Aide, Jr. Honor Society. I am so proud of my baby girl. :)

Cool! My sister served her mission in Chile. I've heard lots about empanadas and I'm happy to have a recipe to make them now. What a fun activity! It sounds like a united ward.

Our ward does a chili cook off each fall. And last spring they did a fun "Survivor-type" evening with clever games and winners getting certain foods and losers getting less yummy foods. Very clever and fun. We've done some neat service projects - park clean ups too. I love ward parties!

Our ward is going to do a fall festival this year. I am primary president and we were working with the kids and reverrence so they got to put an apple or leaf on our tree each week. We told the kids that we would have a apple harvest type of activity this fall, so in talking with the bishop he wanted to make it a whole ward event. So we will have pumpkin carving, scarecrow making, tabletop decor for the fall, trunk-or-treat, and dinner. Of course we are going to have prizes for everything too, oh and for dessert- apple pie, cobbler, crisp, carmel apples- anuyhing apple like. Should be fun!!!
